Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who Does Families Matter Co-op Help?
Answer:

If you are supporting a loved one in the Ottawa area – or you are a self-advocate – we are here to support you.

Q: Do You Have To Be a Member To Get Assistance?
Answer:

We are a co-operative and so we take direction from our members as to what kind of services and information they need us to provide.  That being said, please phone or e-mail us with your questions and we’ll see what we can do to give you a helping hand.

Q: What Kind Of Assistance Do You Offer?
Answer:

We offer workshops, seminars and other learning events.  We also offer social events and opportunities to connect with other families who may have solutions to some of the same problems that you are trying to figure out.  As well, we dispense information and referrals freely.

Q: How Much Does Membership Cost?
Answer:

An FMC membership is $40 per family for 1 year, $70 for 2 years and $100 for 3 years

Q: How Do I Become a Member?
Answer:

Just follow the links on the Home page of the FMC website.  It’s at http://www.familiesmattercoop.ca. You can do it online.  Or, if you prefer, you can mail in your membership.

Q: We Haven't Had Our DSO Assessment Yet. Can You Still Help Me?
Answer:

We certainly can.  Even if you’re waiting for your assessment, there are lots of things to do to prepare for the future.

Q: We're Already On A Waiting List For Lots Of Services. What Can I Do In The Meantime?
Answer:

Waiting lists are long and you could be on them for a while.  What FMC recommends is investigating innovative solutions to some of your issues that you can take on yourself or with other families.  We can help you with that.
