The Coffee House Series - True Stories

Funded by The McKay Cross Foundation, the Coffee House series - True Stories - is designed for parents, siblings and caregivers of individuals living with a developmental disability to get together and share knowledge and experiences, build networks and access essential information on community services, programs and support systems.

The Path to Entrepreneurship (Part 1)
When: Thursday, December 6 from 6:00-7:00 pm
Where: Little Jo Berry's

Guest Speakers will include a “groovy” father and son partnership - DJ Charles and John Howard.  Charles and John will share their real life story on the steps they took to leverage DJ Charles’ unique skills and launch a small business.

The Path to Entrepreneurship (Part 2)
When: Thursday, December 6 from 7:00-8:00 pm
Where: Little Jo Berry’s

Guest speaker includes the inspiring Angus Baynham-McColl.  Angus will share the lessons he learned in the process of launching his coaching business, which focuses on men with Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism.

The Road to Independent Living (Part 1)
When: Monday, December 10 from 6:00-7:00 pm
Where: Citizen Advocacy  (Room 6)

Guest Speakers will include a dynamic mom and daughter duo - Janet Balcome and Nancy Brodie.  Janet and Nancy will share real life stories on the steps they took to achieve Janet’s goals to live independently.

The Road to Independent Living (Part 2)
When: Monday, December 10 from 7:00-8:00 pm
Where: Citizen Advocacy  (Room 6)

Guest Speakers will include the well-informed and experienced mom and son pair - Jordan Edwards and Sharon Edwards.  Jordan and Sharon will share the journey they took to ensure Jordan’s ability to successfully live independently.

Fees:
• $15/person (free for members of Families Matter Co-Op. Inc.)

• Limited seating.  Registrations are first-come, first-served.

N.B. - To date, a number of the coffee houses were held on subjects such as: Registered Disability Savings Plans, the DSW Cooperative, Innovative Housing Options, the Sibling Journey and many other topics.

More sessions will be held prior to the end of December and in the New Year.
